《阿凡达》，可以说这是一部具有跨时代意义的科幻片，也可以说它是掀起了一代科幻片的里程碑，这也是为什么有许多人都喜欢这部电影，也确实是因为这部电影的特效做的很好很好，几乎是让人无可挑剔的地步，堪称是完美。
迪士尼曾官宣《阿凡达2：水之道》（暂译）将于2022年12月16日上映。《阿凡达2》片长达190分钟，掐去片头和片尾字幕，正片时长预计在180分钟左右，比第一部多出18分钟。观影持续三小时以上，对观众是身体和精神耐力的双重考验。上一次片长超过180分钟的还是《复仇者联盟4：终局之战》，但复联系列是爆米花片，不带脑子不看前情也看得进去。
《阿凡达》属于强设定的太空歌剧，观众代入需要一定的理解力，更不用说第二部与第一部相隔十三年之久，观众对主角人设、世界观细节都已印象模糊。在此基础上还有勇气将片长延续到三小时，也只有卡神能对自己作品如此自信。
詹姆斯·卡梅隆曾在《纽约时报》采访中表示，他拒绝了福克斯对于《阿凡达2》删减片长和部分镜头的要求。他声称，“福克斯一栋5亿美元的大厦，是当初靠《泰坦尼克号》所挣收益买下的，因此我有权利决定影片的具体走向。”
